Weather Information As per the Canadian aviation regulation (CAR's) one of the factors that should be taken into account for a site survey is the predominant weather and environmental conditions for the area of operation. There are a number of available sources of weather information that you can use at flightplanning.navcanada.ca NavCanada's aviation weather web site (AWWS) METAR's will give you the current conditions at a nearby airport TAF's provide a forecast of the weather approximately 24 hours ahead. To access this information follow the link bellow and click on "METAR/TAF" button Enter the airport identifier with a weather report that is closet to you Select "plain language" check box and then "get bulletins" you'll receive a series of METAR's for the past few hours with the most recent at the top as well as a TAF (terminal area forecast) which provides a forecast for the next several hours You can also the the following to find out about local weather: call 1-866-WX-BRIEF ATIS or weather advisory radio frequencies from a nearby airport other apps specific to aviation that can be relied upon to provide accurate weather information Types of Weather emember that there are restrictions with respect to flying in certain weather conditions. Some key weather conditions to look out for are: Icing - typically occurs in freezing (sub zero Celsius) temperature with high humidity (clouds or fog) Thunderstorms - it is recommended to stay at least 5 nautical miles away from thunderstorms Poor Visibility - fog or clouds, you must be able to see your RP Winds - don't exceed your RPA's performance limitations Precipitation - don't fly in precipitation that your RPA is not capable of handling
