Once you have identified the closest aerodromes You should retrieve detailed information about them by consulting your Canada Flight Supplement. Some important items to research area: communication frequencies for the traffic at the aerodromes (COMM section) ATIS and or weather advisory frequencies (FLT, PLN, or COMM section) which NOTAM's to search that apply to the airport area (FLT, PLN section) contact information for the aerodrome (COMM section) the direction of the runways at the aerodrome (PRO section) the traffic pattern or other procedures at the aerodrome (PRO section) if you are using a paper (book) version of the Canadian Flight Supplement, you can bookmark the relevant pages for the nearby aerodromes so that you can easily access them on-site. You ca also do screen shots of the digital copy and include them in you Site Survey paperwork. Note that when you are using the Fore Flight app you can click on the airport, find the airport code, and see frequencies directly or type the code into the apps Canadian Flight Supplement search bar.

 

OPR - contains contact numbers for the airport operator FLT PLN - tells you which NOTAM's to search for RWY - lists all the runways and their dimensions COMM - provides radio frequencies and emergency phone # PRO - provides information on traffic patterns note - that only non-standard procedures are listed
The standard traffic pattern Canadian aerodromes is: a left hand circuit at 1000 feet above aerodrome elevation non-standard pattern will be described in the pro section of the Canadian Flight Supplement use the information about the nearby aerodromes to assist you in getting a very clear awareness of: the class of airspace you are operating in the direction and distance of each aerodrome from your flight location the possible traffic pattern used by aircraft arriving / departing the aerodromes based on the runway in use and aerodrome procedures the altitude of the aircraft in the aerodrome pattern are any aircraft likely to be flying very close to your flight location? be prepared to answer these kinds of questions as your flight reviewer may ask you them to ensure you've done your pre-planning.
