Aviation weather resource Flight Information Center Pilots can get up to date weather information from their regional Flight Information Centre (FIC) the phone number available to call to obtain that information is: 1-866-WX-BRIEF LWIS Is a "Limited Weather Information System" available on NavCanada's Aviation Weather Web Site (AWWS) AWOS An "Automated Weather Observing System" it is a fully configurable airport weather system that provides continuous, real time information and reports on airport weather conditions. The information is usually broadcast with a computer-generated voice on a radio frequency to pilots in the vicinity of the airport. It is also available via over a phone number. METAR and TAF NavCanada provides the AWWS (Aviation Weather Web Site) the MET AR and TAF are very useful aviation weather resources for planning RPAS operations. METAR ("Meteorological Terminal Aviation Routine Weather Report") is a very regular (often hourly) weather report from an aviation weather station while TAF ("Terminal Area Forecast") - a short term (24 - 30 hour) aviation weather forecast for the area near an aviation weather reporting station. METAR Interpretation METAR provides weather information for a radius of 5NM around a weather reporting station (often aerodromes) some key points to interpreting a METAR are: Time is given in Zulu Time (UTC) Visibility is given in Statute Miles (SM) Cloud height is given AGL (Above Ground Level) Winds are given in KNOTs and TRUE direction
