Proper Visual Scanning Techniques Because our eyes have a blind spot it is important to use proper visual scanning to counter that effect. The best scanning approach is to segment your scan into blocks and then scan from one block to the next, focus on that block for a few seconds then move to the next block. Checklist In order to reduce the chance of human error, aviation makes extensive use of procedures and checklists. These help ensure that you don't miss or forget something important. Always ensure you have a checklists and systematically go through them item by item without skipping anything . The items should be numbered if you need to go back to an earlier item in a checklist, you must continue through all the next items from that point onwards even if you have already done it. Where possible, use two people to step through a checklist to confirm nothing is missed just like in an aircraft.
