Weather Weather is always very unpredictable and you should establish a clear plan for dealing with unpredictable weather: Have backup dates to reschedule Contract terms outlining course of action to be taken Clear communication of weather limitations with client Watch forecasts well in advance and make decisions about date changes Preparation You should gather and prepare all documentation in advance and bring with you to the operation: Your pilot permit or SFOC Insurance certificates Permits Canada Flight Supplement (CFS) Aircraft checklists Emergency checklist and procedures Instructions from Transport Canada NOTAM's A NOTAM is a "Notice to Airmen" and is a formal method of notifying other aircraft of special activities or considerations not found in standard published charts. NOTAMs are issued and available through NavCanada ans are issued for specific geographic areas, including a national region covering all of Canada. For RPAS operations an SFOC may state that Transport Canada should be contacted first to determine whether a NOTAM is required. As part of their flight planning, pilots are required to check for NOTAMs applicable to their route of flight. When using a NOTAM you should contact the FIC or FSS for the area of operations 5 - 48 hours in advance. The contact can be found in the Canada Flight Supplement (CFS) in the FLT PLN section. When contacting them you should provide the following information (minimum): Date and times of the operation Precise geographic coordinates of location Radius of the area of operations (in Nautical Miles) Altitude of the operation (AGL or MSL) Description of the RPAS Contact name and number
