Emergency Procedures, what can you expect? Your emergency procedures will be the verbal component of the flight review prior to flying. You will be required to demonstrate verbally to the flight reviewer the procedures you have in place when an emergency occurs. During your review you will have to describe the following: the emergency procedures that apply to your drone what is defines by an incident or accident your method of informing Transport Canada or any other government agency of an incident or accident How to Prepare you will need to be prepared to describe your procedures for handling a number of potential emergency situations. In order to be fully prepared you should have the following procedures in place both for the review or any other flight. an emergency checklist with clear steps to be taken in various emergencies a list of contact numbers or frequencies to contact in an emergency configuration of you RPA's for such emergencies (return to home) knowing your responsibilities for reporting incidents or accidents Your Emergency Checklist your emergency checklist should contain clear steps for the pilot and or crew members to take in the event of a number of possible emergencies including lost link (radio communication lost between ground remote and RPA) lateral fly-away (uncontrolled RPA flying mostly horizontal) vertical fly away (uncontrolled RPA flying mostly vertically) flight termination (purposely cutting power to the RPA) Crash, Accident, Injury produce a clear checklist for what you will do if you have a crash or accent with your RPA or if persons are injured. determine if there is a need to request emergency response utilize available emergency equipment (fire extinguisher, first aid) ensure the safety of crew and general public determine how to report the incident or accident reference your emergency contacts list (will be showed later in this chapter)
