Drones for Business Recent developments in the RPAS industry have led to making it much easier to acquire and fly drones for business and pleasure. Regulatory changes have made it much easier for businesses to embrace this drone technology, allowing it become much more comfortable with drones. Agriculture Agriculture has recently made huge advances in its use of high-technology to improve yields. "precision agriculture" is the concept of applying that technology to manage crop growth and farming with a high degree of precision using highly accurate GPS coordinates; one of those new applications is that RPAS are now starting to be used to spray crops. Spraying using drones can be done with much more accuracy, and can target specific portions of a field or crop: Saving water Saving chemicals Reducing human exposure to harsh chemicals Reducing over spray Farming RPAs have several other significant applications in farming and agriculture. A variety of sensors including multi-spectral, Hyper-spectral, NDVI and LiDAR can be used to survey fields or farmland to: Provide accurate plants counts Identify diseases or pests on crops Detect and monitor vegetation growth Identify water pooling and or run off Locate missing cattle Thermal Mapping Infra-Red and other thermal cameras are now much lighter and cheaper and can easily be incorporated on a small RPAS. This has opened up tremendous opportunity for aerial thermal surveying and mapping with drones in the areas of: Gathering soil temperature data for agriculture and farming Detection of hot spots in forest fires Assisting with forest fire containment Search and Rescue RPAS have become an invaluable tool for Search and Rescue operations. Carrying regular and infra-red (FLIR) cameras, RPAS can be very quickly and easily deployed, used to search a wide area, and then quickly moved to a new location to continue a search. The Infra-red cameras can very easily detect the body heat of a human from the air, making the search significantly easier and quicker.
