Tethered Drones Tethered drones are RPAS that are hovering above a location while connected to the ground with a cable or hose. One key benefit is that by powering them from the ground they are not dependent on battery life and can stay airborne for very long periods of time. They offer Industry some innovative solutions not previously available: Security and surveillance of facilities Spraying solutions from reservoirs on the ground Fire hoses Painting and washing Temporary "towers" for radio or cell transmission 3D Mapping LiDAR's ability to generate extremely detailed 3 dimensional models of an environment has countless applications and value for a large number of industries it can also now be mounted to RPAS to capture even more valuable data from the air. LiDAR also offers the ability to produce very accurate measurements from the models it produces: Tree inventories for forestry Volumetric analysis of stockpiles Power-line inspections Accurate terrain mapping Accurate recording of project progress in construction Providing a digital record for accountability Surveillance Where traditionally surveillance and security has been limited by positioning cameras on structures, or having human patrols, RPAS offer an affordable, flexible, mobile aerial camera solution. RPAS mounted with high precision cameras can: Patrol an area Offer mobile security cameras that can be relocated or "sent to investigate" Have been used by prisons to find and detect escapees Accident Reconstruction Highway accidents, especially serious ones, require meticulously investigation and reconstruction by police and other authorities. The time taken to perform those investigations can result in lengthy delays and disruptions to traffic affecting thousands of drivers. Police and insurance companies are now using RPAS to not only improve the quality of those reconstructions, but also significantly speed up the process.
