Pilot Certificate Advanced Operations Those pilots conducting Advanced Operations need a pilot certificate for advanced operations. To obtain this certificate a pilot: Must be at least 16 years of age Must register their drone online with Transport Canada Must successfully complete the online examination "Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems - Advanced Operations" administered by Transport Canada Must have, within 12 months before the date of application, successfully completed a flight review conducted by a qualified instructor under section 901.82 Drone Registration All drones that weigh between 250 g and 25 kg must be registered with Transport Canada and pilots must mark their drones with their registration number before they fly. A person is qualified to be the registered owner of a remotely piloted aircraft if they are: A citizen of Canada A permanent resident of Canada A corporation incorporated under the territorial, provincial or federal laws of Canada A municipal, provincial or federal entity No individual is qualified to be the registered owner of a remotely piloted aircraft unless that individual is at least 14 years of age When a remotely piloted aircraft is registered, the Minister shall issue to the registered owner of the aircraft a certificate of registration that includes a registration number, the serial number of the aircraft, if applicable; and if the manufacturer has made a declaration in accordance with section 901.76 in respect of the model of remotely piloted aircraft system of which the aircraft is an element, the operations referred to in subsection 901.69(1) for which the declaration was made. No pilot shall operate a remotely piloted aircraft system unless the certificate of registration issued in respect of the remotely piloted aircraft is easily accessible to the pilot for the duration of the operation.
